Whenever people ask me who I think the greatest hip-hop artist of all time is, and without hesitation I always say Tech N9NE. His dedication to the game, his lyrical articulation and the structures of his flows are incredibly complicated and he's a hard person to duplicate. He's a man who wasn't given any help from the industry and still managed to take advantage of his opportunities to become a rap juggernaut.

The Storm is Tech N9NE's seventeenth studio album, a number which is unheard of for many music artists to reach. The deluxe album includes a whopping 32 tracks; some of which are songs made by his fellow Strange Music artists. Tech's always been about promoting new up and coming talent so this move does not surprise me.

The album was initially suppose to be released on September 9, 2016 but Tech personal life got in the way of its completion. At that time he was going through a divorce and a family member getting shot.

My honest opinion about the album is that it was slightly disappointing. There wasn't many songs that stood out to me in the album. I wouldn't say the songs were bad, but they lacked replay value. When comparing this to some of my favorite Tech N9NE albums (Everready, Killer, Sickology 101) it just doesn't hold up.

Perhaps I put too much hype on this album that it was doomed to disappoint. Tech's first album ever released was called Calm Before the Storm. Knowing this, I assumed the album The Storm was potentially Tech's last album and would sound like a discography of his entire career and the multiple styles he's adopted over time (His album Special Effects felt more like this description). Instead, this album felt like it was an extension of all 6's and 7's. It just didn't sound like what I was expecting the album to sound like.

That being said, it is still a very enjoyable album and I would still recommend giving it a listen if you're a fellow Technician. In my opinion, even a mediocre album from Tech N9NE is still better than what most hip hop artists are putting out today.
