We the People...

Lost Somebody

America has been vibe-ing to The Tribe ever since their debut album in 1990, People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm. For the first time in over 20 years, A Tribe Called Quest have the number one selling hip-hop album in the country.

We Got It From Here... Thank You For Your Service is A Tribe Called Quest's sixth and final album. It features the last verses and recordings from group member Phife Dawg, who died March 22 of this year from a life-long battle with diabetes.

Along with the remaining members of The Tribe (Q-Tip, Ali and Jarobi) this album features many top names in hip-hop past and present, which includes: Anderson.Paak, Andre 3000, Busta Rhymes, Kendrick Lamar and Talib Kweli. Kanye West, Jack White and Elton John also make guest appearances on the album as well.

In 1998, the group split up due to the strained relationships between the group. After a brief reunion in 2013 for Kanye West's Yeezus Tour, they denied all claims about making new material. However, after the Paris attacks on November 13, 2015, the group felt the need to create another album. Phife Dawg was the one who chose the name for the album, perhaps predicting his own death before the album's completion.

The album still maintains that classic Tribe sound that we have become accustomed to; a very jazzy, reggae, and funky feel with smooth, crisp flows that are easy to nod along to. The album's message throughout the piece dealt with subject such as today's social and world issues like in the songs, "We the People..." and "Conrad Tokyo." Most of A Tribe Called Quest's music deals with trying to promote positivity and love through the art and connection of music. They address these issues in order for us as a society to heal from them.

I highly recommend this album to anyone who's been a fan of A Tribe Called Quest's music, as well as anyone interested in hearing their music for the first time. Being a huge Tribe fan, I would also recommend downloading their previous works like "Midnight Marauders" and "Low End Theory."
